The 23rd Ngee Ann National Teochew Artists’ Exhibition 2021

Calligraphy Exhibition | Painting Exhibition

Since its establishment in 1998, Ngee Ann Cultural Centre (NACC), a subsidiary of The Ngee Ann Kongsi, has been actively promoting local arts and culture. The annual National Teochew Artists’ Calligraphy & Painting Exhibition was first introduced in the same year as a platform for local Teochew artists to showcase their works and talent in traditional Chinese calligraphy, Chinese ink painting and Western painting. The exhibition was renamed “Ngee Ann National Teochew Artists’ Exhibition” (TAE) in 2015 to engage with and embrace more genres of visual art.

Over the years, the exhibition has grown year on year, attracting hundreds of local Teochews, who are professional artists, art enthusiasts and young talents to participate and exhibit as a group.

In 1999, the NACC established the “Ngee Ann Artist of the Year Award”. Each November at the opening ceremony of TAE, this prestigious award is presented to a renowned local Teochew artist to honour his/her personal achievement in the pursuit of art-making and outstanding contribution to local art scene. This award serves as an encouragement to the younger generation of artists.

In the search for talented Teochew artists in the younger generation, this year, NACC has launched a new “Ngee Ann Young Promising Artist Award” in 2021 to introduce emerging young artists to fellow Teochews as well as Singaporeans. The NACC hopes to attract and nurture rising stars of tomorrow, encouraging more young artists to showcase their work in this platform.
