Educators may lead students to explore the permanent exhibition independently. Sign up for our Sessions for Educators where you can gauge how easily your students can guide themselves in this interactive exhibition and take a look at the suggested Resources.

Self-guided visit requests must be sent at least three weeks prior to your date of visit. Each booking may accommodate up to a maximum of 40 students.

School groups may request to visit the exhibition earlier at 9am. A minimum of 20 students is required for such requests.

1. How Does Culture Evolve?

Find out how culture evolves in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition, as 10 – 12 year old students investigate the factors that influence our culture and the role they play in the evolution of Chinese Singaporean culture.

This tour may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Character & Citizenship Education, Social Studies, Drama and Chinese Language.

2. Our Past, Present & Future!

Trace the roots and development of Chinese Singaporean culture, as well as its connections to other ethnic cultures in this experiential guided tour of the permanent exhibition, specially designed for students!

This tour may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of History, Social Studies, Character & Citizenship Education, National Education, English, Chinese Language and Art.

3. Spot the Cultural Difference

Take on the role of junior cultural detectives and go on a scavenger hunt to uncover cultural fun facts in the permanent exhibition! Catered for 7 – 9 year olds, students will learn about Singapore’s distinctive culture in a multi-ethnic context through the use of inquiry cards with reflective questions on everyday topics such as surnames and food.

This tour may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Character & Citizenship Education, Social Studies, Art and Chinese Language.

4. Uniquely Singaporean!

Explore the origins of Chinese Singaporean culture and find out how it has developed over the years in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. Students will be engaged in interactive discussions, in-gallery activities and role-play activities, allowing them to embark on a self-discovery of Chinese Singaporean culture and identity.

This tour will be conducted in English and is relevant to the teaching of Social Studies and Character & Citizenship Education.

Find out what makes lohei, a Chinese festive dish, distinctive to Singapore and take a closer look at the traits of Chinese Singaporean in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition.In the hands-on activity segment, students can try their hand at writing lyrics and composing their very own song.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Chinese Language, Higher Chinese and Creative Writing.

3. Our Past, Present & Future!

4. Remix It! With the iPad

Take a musical trip back in time and trace the evolution of music in Singapore in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on activity segment, students will get the chance to remix a song inspired by popular local Mandarin songs, using the iPad Garage Band Application.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Music and Chinese Language.

5. Return to Roots with Xinyao Music!

Learn about how xinyao became a cultural phenomenon distinctive to Singapore in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on segment, students will work in teams and learn to play selected xinyao songs using the Ukulele, and perform in front of their peers.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Music, Chinese Language and Higher Chinese.

6. Sing Your Way Through Singapore’s Musical Eras!

Trace the evolution of Mandarin music in Singapore and learn about popular local singers who have shaped the Mandarin music scene in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on activity segment, students will learn to sing a medley comprising songs from various eras and work in teams to record a segment of their medley in a simple studio setup.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Music, Chinese Language and Higher Chinese.
