Educators may lead students to explore the permanent exhibition independently. Sign up for our Sessions for Educators where you can gauge how easily your students can guide themselves in this interactive exhibition and take a look at the suggested Resources.

Please download and fill up the Self-Guided Visit Form and email to [email protected] to make a booking request.

Self-guided visit requests must be sent at least three weeks prior to your date of visit. Each booking may accommodate up to a maximum of 40 students.

School groups may request to visit the exhibition earlier at 9am. A minimum of 20 students is required for such requests.

1. Connecting to the Past

Journey back into the past in this experiential tour of the permanent exhibition and learn about the origins of Chinese Singaporean culture and how it has developed over the years. Through inquiry-based approaches, in-gallery activities and object-based discussions, students will be guided to make comparisons between past and present practices of Chinese culture in Singapore.

This tour may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of History, Social Studies, Character & Citizenship Education, National Education, English and Chinese Language.

Learn more about Chinese Singaporean culture from our trained facilitators as they take students on a guided tour of the permanent exhibition. Complete your session with an exciting hands-on workshop inspired by the exhibition.

Choose from programmes which have been specially developed to offer students a holistic learning experience. Students can express their creativity and originality through a range of activities from craft making to art techniques, to music making and song writing.

1. Let’s Do the Lo Hei Twist!

Find out what makes lohei, a Chinese festive dish, distinctive to Singapore and take a closer look at the traits of Chinese Singaporean in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on activity segment, students can try their hand at writing lyrics and composing their very own song.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Chinese Language, Higher Chinese and Creative Writing.

2. Remix It! With the iPad

Take a musical trip back in time and trace the evolution of music in Singapore in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on activity segment, students will get the chance to remix a song inspired by popular local Mandarin songs, using the iPad Garage Band Application.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Music and Chinese Language.

3. Return to Roots with Xinyao Music!

Learn about how xinyao became a cultural phenomenon distinctive to Singapore in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on segment, students will work in teams and learn to play selected xinyao songs using the Ukulele, and perform in front of their peers.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Music, Chinese Language and Higher Chinese.

4. Sing Your Way Through Singapore’s Musical Eras!

Trace the evolution of Mandarin music in Singapore and learn about popular local singers who have shaped the Mandarin music scene in this guided tour of the permanent exhibition. In the hands-on activity segment, students will learn to sing a medley comprising songs from various eras and work in teams to record a segment of their medley in a simple studio setup.

This programme may be conducted in English or Mandarin and is relevant to the teaching of Music, Chinese Language and Higher Chinese.
