The Relationship Amongst Teochew Community, Associations and Opera

Teochew Opera 2022

Teochew opera arrived in Singapore together with the Teochew community as early as the 19th century. Their establishment in Singapore was closely related to the lifestyles and beliefs of Teochew community in the early days. In addition, the Teochew clans and associations have also played a pivotal role in the development of Teochew opera in Singapore. The interactions amongst the three parties contributed to a stirring and exciting chapter in the history of Singapore’s Teochew opera.
