SINGAPORE, 6 March 2025 – Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) and Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) have jointly launched 60 Prominent Cultural Figures from the Chinese Community exhibition, marking the start of a year-long calendar of SG60 programmes from local Chinese institutions and cultural groups.
The exhibition, featuring 60 standees of Chinese Singaporeans who made significant contributions to Singapore’s cultural landscape, was launched on 6 March 2025 at SCCC and Singapore Conference Hall, and will be on display at both venues until 30 November 2025., The exhibition will also be adapted into panels to travel across multiple locations in Singapore from June 2025.
It spotlights cultural personalities who were pioneers and leaders in their respective fields, and highlights their significant contributions and achievements across six main fields of academia, commerce, literary arts, media, performing arts, and visual arts. The exhibition text is presented in both English and Chinese.
CEO/SCCC Mr Alvin Tan said, “Through this exhibition, SCCC and our partners hope to showcase the commitment and contributions of cultural pioneers from our local Chinese community. In doing so, we hope to encourage those who come after them to build on the foundations laid by these pioneers, and to inspire new generations of arts and cultural practitioners and groups to bring their art forms to new heights and contribute to a thriving arts, culture and heritage ecosystem in Singapore.”
The 60 Prominent Cultural Figures from the Chinese Community exhibition kicks off SCCC and its partners’ calendar of SG60 events for the year. These events include an SG60 weekend festival by SCCC and various arts and cultural groups (June); an exhibition by Siaw-Tao Chinese Seal Carving & Calligraphy Society (July to August); a travelling breakfast by SCCC and SFCCA on the Nanyang Breakfast (April onwards); concerts by Reverberance (April) and Cultural Medallion recipient Phoon Yew Tien (August); a drama with Chinese elements by Young People’s Performing Arts Ensemble’s (YPPAE) (March) and more.
Mr Alvin Tan adds, “By commemorating SG60 together, SCCC and our partners are answering the call to step forward as one and to showcase how far our local Chinese arts and culture sector has progressed since our nation’s independence. With our year-long calendar of cultural offerings, SCCC hopes to function as a central community hub where Singaporeans can gather to support our local arts and cultural groups, and celebrate our cultural achievements with fellow Singaporeans.”
