Oftentimes, it takes a fresh set of eyes to see our city in a novel and different light. When French visual designer Nicolas Damiens first arrived in December 2021, he quickly found himself enamoured by what he saw in Singapore.
As he wandered through our streets, Nicolas captures and transforms Singapore’s perpetual summer, palm fronds and familiar landmarks into City Pop art – an art style characterised by depictions of urban environments infused with pastel shades, a retro ambience and a feelgood sense of bygone days. City Pop, according to Nicolas, is a fitting embodiment of what Singapore’s landscapes mean to him.
A collaboration between Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and the Embassy of France in Singapore for the 2025 vOilah! France Singapore Festival, CITY SingaPOP showcases a total of 70 works clustered according to common categories by the award-winning Nicolas Damiens.
As an artist bridging two cultures, this exhibition is Nicolas Damiens’ birthday gift to Singapore for SG60, while also commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between his host country and his homeland.
This collaboration is supported by MCCY.
