SINGAPORE, 28 January 2026 – Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and Unigons, a Singapore-based company known for turning recycled PET bottles into 3D-printed collectibles, successfully set a Singapore Book of Records for the “Largest Fibreglass Fortune Merlion”. Produced by Unigons, the pair of Fortune Merlions stand at 115cm tall each and are specially commissioned by SCCC to complement its Tradition in Motion: Singapore’s Lion Dance Heritage special exhibition.

Currently placed at the Centre’s entrance, these contemporary statutes draw upon the long-standing Chinese practice of placing guardian lion sculptures at building entrances to offer protection and attract good fortune. The design is based on the Uniplay Fortune Merlion series by Unigons, and blends heritage with contemporary design to welcome the new year in a new and refreshing manner.

These Fortune Merlions have also been adapted into limited edition figures made from recycled plastic bottles that will be available for pre-order online at https://www.unigonsplay.com/ from 28 January 2026, 9am, and for purchase at CNY Family FUN (CNYFF) at SCCC Multi-Purpose Hall, Level 7, on 31 January and 1 February 2026.

There will be a total of three variants, and details are as appended below:

  • Ultra Rare Stone Edition (30cm) at $388 (38 pieces, available for pre-order only)
  • Limited Prosperity Red Edition (23cm) at $128 (188 pieces only, 10 pieces for sale at CNYFF)
  • Limited SCCC Peach Edition (23cm) at $128 (88 pieces only, 15 pieces for sale at CNYFF)

SCCC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alvin Tan, said, “We are delighted to support a local creative company that is able to draw inspiration from lion dance for its new series of eco-conscious collectibles. Through the statues and the collectibles, we hope to promote the traditional art form of lion dance, and to show how lion dance’s impact extends beyond performances during festive celebrations to everyday popular culture.”

Uniplay Fortune Merlion Designer of Unigons, Mr Joe Chua, said, “This is an original, modern artistic convergence of Singapore’s Merlion, the symbolic prosperity of the Fortune Cat, and the dynamic energy of traditional lion dance. I am deeply honored to debut Singapore’s largest Fortune Merlion Dance statues, now beckoning majestically at the entrance of the iconic SCCC. This also marks the overseas launch of the Fortune Merlions, promoting and amplifying Singapore’s identity, art, and culture on a global stage.”
