Lao Jiu: The Musical

Set in 1980s Singapore, 𝘓𝘢𝘰 𝘑𝘪𝘶: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 follows an exceptionally gifted boy — the ninth child and only son in a family of daughters.
A prestigious scholarship lies within reach, yet Lao Jiu’s heart longs for the rich world of traditional Chinese hand puppetry. With his family’s hopes resting on him, Lao Jiu faces an impossible choice: pursue a path of stability and security, or dedicate himself to the life of an artist.

Adapted from the late theatre doyen Kuo Pao Kun’s beloved play, 𝘓𝘢𝘰 𝘑𝘪𝘶: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 is one of Singapore’s most celebrated original musicals, with multiple sold-out runs and numerous accolades.

Award-winning director Kuo Jian Hong (𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘐𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴…) revisits this landmark production, uniting a dynamic mix of original cast members and fresh new talent. Featuring evocative music and lyrics by Mandopop luminaries Eric Ng and Xiaohan, this heart-warming musical brings together stirring songs, energetic choreography, and a captivating spectrum of puppetry styles.
