Young Singaporeans Interpret Local Chinese Culture at REMIX 2026!

SINGAPORE, 25 June 2026 – Discover young Singaporeans’ take on local Chinese culture at REMIX 2026, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s (SCCC) annual youth festival with a slew of creative youth-produced and youth-targeted arts and cultural offerings.

As part of SCCC’s Youth Day celebrations this July, REMIX 2026 is co-presented with SCCC’s Youth Force, a youth group set up to co-develop initiatives with the Centre, as well as other partners. SCCC’s Youth Force comprises youth representatives from volunteer groups, institutes of higher learning, and organisations representing heritage, community engagement as well as the performing and visual arts.

From 3 to 12 July 2026 across the first two weekends of the month, the festival will offer a total of 11 arts and cultural programmes ranging from dance, singing, jam sessions, experimental theatre, photography, play and design, with close to half of the festival’s programmes presented by members of SCCC’s Youth Force.

SCCC’s Youth Force presents

A highlight of REMIX 2026 is a thought-provoking theatre experience produced by The Solitude Movement titled Finding X, which explores themes of beauty, gender and social roles of young women shaped by family, peers and social media. Audiences are invited to step into X’s shoes as a girl caught between who she is and what society expects her to be.

Another REMIX 2026 highlight titled ff digs into a sense of nostalgia and insecurity through an interactive musical experience set in a haunted school CCA practice room. Fusing Chinese orchestra music with horror theatre, this performance features four musicians on the erhu, yangqin, sheng and percussion, and an actress, with local composer Sulwyn Lok in charge of the soundscapes.

Shutterbugs and heritage buffs can also look forward to A Living Stage: Stories of Chinese Opera, a photo exhibition which captures Sin Yen Lin Hokkien Opera as they prepare for a performance at Sze Hock Keng Tua Peh Kong Temple. A blend of photography and heritage, this exhibition features the works of youth photographers from Project Obscura.

In collaboration with AMACHA, visitors will get to select their own Traditional Chinese Medicine inspired herb blend in Botanica Brews, an interactive experience and get it brewed into a customised cup of warm roasted milk tea.

Showcases of music, movement and creativity

Beyond programmes presented by SCCC’s Youth Force, the festival offers activities for youths and their friends to explore and experience different aspects of local Chinese culture. REMIX The Mission: Ah Ma’s Secret Recipe is a clue-solving mission spanning the entire SCCC building where participants can expect to piece together clues that will test their knowledge of local Chinese culture and dialects.

The yearly signature street dance showdown inspired by various Chinese music styles, REMIX The Dance, returns with high-energy performances, epic freestyle battles, and unexpected surprises as competitors take it to the next level with an “instrument blindbox” twist.

Music lovers are in for a treat with laid-back afterhours live-house sessions and mini concerts featuring jazz tunes and original compositions; open jam and open mic sessions; as well as an a cappella showdown in REMIX The Vocals – a first at the festival.

According to Alvin Tan, CEO of SCCC: “With REMIX 2026, we hope to empower local youths to express themselves creatively, celebrate our young talents, and encourage more youths to participate in and enjoy local Chinese culture. In doing so, we hope to increase their cultural awareness, instill a sense of pride, and create a positive impact on youths.”

REMIX 2026 is open to the public and offers a range of both free and ticketed programmes. For more information on SCCC’s Youth Force, the full list of programmes, ticketing and registration details, please refer to the event’s media kit here.
