Poetic Strokes: Singapore’s Classical Chinese Poetry in Calligraphy

Poems both reflect and express. They reflect Singapore’s past. They also express the evolving sentiments and identities of the local Chinese.

This exhibition features a selection of Singapore’s classical Chinese poetry composed from the 19^thcentury to present day. In 2020, ten local calligraphers were invited write these poems because poetry and calligraphy are related art forms. A poem’s emotions can be visually expressed by calligraphy. Likewise, our enjoyment of calligraphic strokes may be enhanced by a poem’s content.
