In this unique family bonding workshop, we will help kids and parents discover and relate to the 2,000-year-old Analects by Confucius, one of the most important books of Chinese culture, in a fun and interactive way!
Highlights of family bonding activities:
– Hello, hello? Discover the most memorable phrases of the Analects, via a broken telephone!
– Be a copycat: Travel back in time and have fun re-enacting the scribing of dialogues (语录体), an ancient literary format.
– Stand-up Analects: A mini forum theatre where we will relate the Analects’s ancient moral lessons to our modern lives
– Where’s Confy? Would you be able to recognise Confucius on the streets?
– Time travel to Spring Autumn Period via a soundscape (of fighting, galloping horses, cries and groans). Realise this was the world Confucius was trying to change.
– Introduce children to the Four Treasures of the study (文房四宝) via a hybrid calligraphy and story-telling exercise.
– Learn about the tale of the fire at the horses’ stables: 《论语正义·乡党》: “厩焚。子退朝,曰: ‘伤人乎?’不问马。”
– Discover Mencius (孟子), Confucius’ famous disciple, and the story of the fish and bear paw.
– Learn about decorum (礼) through a simulation of a dinner table scene with the children’s own snacks.
– Ancient 听写: Travel back in time to take a familiar test.
Language of instruction: Chinese. For all enquiries, please email education@singaporeccc.org.sg.
