liTHE 2025 marks the return of T.H.E’s annual platform for emerging choreographic voices to the stage, presenting bold experiments and new discoveries by the next generation of contemporary dance artists. This year’s triple bill features two brand-new creations by Billy Keohavong and Klievert Jon Mendoza, full-time dance artists with T.H.E Dance Company, performed by dance artists from T.H.E Second Company. The evening also includes a guest performance of Un-form, choreographed by Founding Artistic Director Kuik Swee Boon and performed by the main company.
In Misfits, Billy embraces the awkwardness and contradictions of those who never quite fit in, offering a layered portrait of discomfort, humour and quiet strength. Klievert’s Hawla (Tagalog for “cage”) examines the emotional toll of feeling trapped, whether by circumstance or self, moving between force and fragility through the ebb and flow of group dynamics. Positioned between the two new works, Un-form strips away technique to confront the quiet conflict between purpose, identity and survival.
The evening will begin with a pre-show sharing at 7pm by participants of the Training Initiative, a 10-month platform for aspiring dancers aged 16 to 30. They’ll present excerpts from Spare Room by Yarra Ileto and Silences We Are Familiar With by Kuik Swee Boon, in a stripped-back setting that highlights honest embodiment and artistic growth.
From emerging movers to established voices, liTHE 2025 brings together all three strands of T.H.E’s creative development: T.H.E Training Initiative, T.H.E Second Company and T.H.E Dance Company. It offers a glimpse into how the company supports different stages of a dance artist’s journey in Singapore, with each path shaped by its own questions, challenges and possibilities.
T.H.E Second Company is the semi-professional wing of T.H.E Dance Company, providing advanced training and performance opportunities for aspiring and emerging dance artists. Under the guidance of T.H.E’s core artistic team, second company members engage in rigorous technique training and receive critical feedback on both performance and choreographic work, building a strong foundation for their ongoing development.
This programme is also available under the SG Culture Pass, which offers all Singapore Citizens aged 18 and above S$100 in credits, redeemable for local arts and culture events.
