Art is a sacred temple. Through the ages, pilgrims have come and gone in a hurry. Some sang songs of praise, but soon disappeared into the desert outside the temple. It is not many that can add a bright color to this temple of Intangible heritage. Years after years, Teochew opera witnessed the ups and downs of an era, and Teochew opera practitioners were the epitome of this era.
Nam Hwa Opera has attracted more than 50 children aged 3 to 14 to learn Chaozhou opera since it set up a children’s opera class in 2017. Every Saturday for the past 5 years, our opera instructors spared no efforts to train the kids, guiding them to grow a passion in Teochew opera.
Now, they are eager to take over the stage and showcase what they have learnt. “Nam Hwa Blazes: The Art of Learning” will be a show of the shiny future stars in Teochew opera. They may not be perfect, but they are glowing just as bright when they stand of the huge stage at Singapore Chinese Culture Centre, Auditorium, and giving their very best.
25 September, let’s save the date and come to support the rising stars of Teochew opera.
