Opus 26

Now in its fifth edition, Opus continues Reverberance’s commitment to developing new repertoire for Chinese wind and percussion ensemble. Since 2021, the series has premiered more than 30 works by Singaporean composers, contributing to a growing repertoire for the ensemble and bringing Singaporean voices to audiences beyond our shores.

This year, Opus broadens its musical perspective. Half of the programme features works by Singaporean composers, while the other half brings together composers from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia — placing Singaporean writing alongside voices from across the wider Chinese music landscape.

Taking the solo spotlight is suona musician Goh Wei Hong, who will premiere a new work by Simon Kong, composed specially for him. Written with Wei Hong’s distinctive playing style in mind, the work explores the character and expressive possibilities of the suona, highlighting both its raw energy and its capacity for lyrical expression.

Also joining the programme is Kuo Hung-hsi, who will perform her own music with Reverberance, bringing the perspectives of composer and performer together on stage in a single voice. Through this dual role, she offers a personal interpretation of her work, shaped directly by her own artistic intent and performance practice.
