Talking to Twilight (Singapore Writers Festival x Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre）

What is longing, if not a yearning that can be felt across different languages.

Inspired by The Colour of Twilight by Cultural Medallion recipient Yeng Pway Ngon, Talking to Twilight continues the story of Ming Wai’s longing for his late wife, Hwee Ying.

In this new imagining, Hwee Ying returns to the places they once visited together and watches over Ming Wai as he goes on with his life. If she could see his sadness and longing, what would she say to him?

Blending text, storytelling, dance and live music, Talking to Twilight presents the same monologue in Mandarin, English and Cantonese. As the story is told through different languages, movement and music, the feeling of longing remains the same, yet it takes on a different meaning and emotion each time, just like the changing colours of twilight.
