The first volume situates the local celebration of the Nine Emperor Gods Festival in the wider Southeast Asian context, examining the history of Nine Emperor Gods worship in China and Southeast Asia, as well as divergences and commonalities in their practices. In the second volume, 15 sites and temples that host the Nine Emperor Gods festival are examined in detail, providing a comprehensive understanding of how these sites relate to the Nine Emperor Gods.
