This year, Nam Hwa Opera was proud to receive The Stewards of Singapore’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Award from the National Heritage Board. In appreciation of this honour and celebration of its 57th anniversary, the company will be presenting an online premier of the Classic Teochew Opera “The Tale of Su Liu Niang”, at 8pm on 30th October.
Su Liu Niang, the titular main character, will be played by Tan Wei Tian who is only 17 this year. Tan began her career in Chinese Opera from the early age of 3, when she started to receive formal training in Teochew Opera and Peking Opera. In 2012 she participated in exchange programs in the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing, in order to advance her technique and mastery of the traditional arts.
