The Tragedy of Qin Xianglian

Qin Xianglian is a classic Chinese opera story that tells a tragic tale of loyalty, betrayal, and justice during the Song Dynasty.
Qin Xianglian is a devoted wife to Chen Shimei. After Chen passes the imperial examination and travels to the capital, he abandons his wife and child to marry a princess for wealth and status. Years later, Qin Xianglian journeys to the capital with their son in search of her husband, only to be rejected and nearly killed on Chen’s orders to keep his secret.
Desperate, Qin Xianglian appeals to the upright and incorruptible judge, Bao Zheng (also known as Judge Bao). After uncovering the truth, Bao Zheng defies pressure from the royal court and, in the famous case known as The Execution of Chen Shimei, brings Chen to justice, upholding the law and protecting the innocent.
This story is a powerful representation of moral integrity and the resilience of women, and remains one of the most iconic tales in traditional Chinese opera.
