Ever wondered how parents are raising the next generation of Chinese Singaporeans? In our increasingly globalised world, parenting in Chinese Singaporean households involves imparting an intricate blend of values. These families continue to uphold traditional principles—such as the importance of education and respect for elders—while also adopting Western approaches that emphasise individuality and open, equal communication. As globalisation gives rise to new immigrant communities, we also observe how intergenerational communication reshapes family structures and influences transnational parenting trends. This lecture explores how Chinese Singaporean families stay rooted in their cultural heritage while embracing new parenting approaches, offering valuable cross-cultural insights into contemporary family education.
