Venerable Zhuan Dao was the forerunner of Mahayana Buddhism in Singapore. He was much respected in both Singapore and China not only because of his endeavours in promoting Buddhism, but also his efforts in running schools to help the needy children and to spread his ideas of Buddhism education.
Zhuan Dao was undoubtedly one of the pioneering educators in Singapore. His thoughts of education were closely related to those of educators in modern China, and he made them well balanced with Buddhism. He believed that all Buddhists should love Buddhism, love their country and love all humans, which are the core values of his education thoughts. Zhuan Dao died in 1943, yet his legacies in Buddhism and education are well remembered in Singapore and in China.
