Cultural Extravaganza 2023 Opens with Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award Presentation by Minister of State Low Yen Ling and Cross-Cultural Theatre-Dance Performance, Present Past

Singapore, 12 May 2023– The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s (SCCC) signature annual festival Cultural Extravaganza was officially opened on 12 May 2023.

Kicking off the festival is a cross-cultural performance Present Past by RuanAtWorkz. A total of 11 programmes that spotlight our Chinese Singaporean culture will be featured at Cultural Extravaganza 2023 from 12 May to 18 June 2023, based on the theme of  “传承” or passing traditions to the next generation.

Graced by Guest-of-Honour Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling, the occasion also presented the 6th Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award (SCCCA). Chief Artistic Director of Singapore’s renowned  bilingual theatre company, Toy Factory Productions Ltd, Goh Boon Teck is the recipient for the Individual category, while Teochew opera ensemble Nam Hwa Opera is the recipient for the Organisation category. Nominations for the 7th SCCCA were also officially opened at the Award Ceremony. Members of the public are invited to nominate deserving candidates for the Award. On the same occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and SCCC was inked tonight to further synergise their efforts and resources to build a vibrant local Chinese cultural hub in the heart of CBD.

Around 150 attendees were present at the event, including key leaders from the local Chinese community.
