SINGAPORE, 26 March 2024 – The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is thrilled to announce the seventh edition of Cultural Extravaganza (CE), an annual arts and cultural event that showcases the vibrancy of our distinctive SINGAPO人 culture through crossovers between disciplines, cultures and generations.

Based on the theme of (Re)presenting Our SINGAPO人 Treasures, CE 2024 presents original productions and creative reinterpretations through theatrical performances, exhibitions and concerts by our talented artists and arts groups. The eight shows and two exhibitions will take place from 8 May to 30 June 2024

Be wowed by the original creations of our local talents

The Singaporean Composers Series, a celebration of 20 years of The TENG Company, features 10 newly commissioned works across different genres in collaboration with 20 local composers, producers, musicians and filmmakers. Showcasing Singapore’s unique diversity, the concert transcends boundaries and spotlights the boundless spectrum of Singaporean artistry.

Deep dive into the lives and creations of eight prominent local cartoonists at Devoted to Serve exhibition. The original art works are accompanied by works by local illustrator Koh Hong Teng and students from local schools.

See the world anew through new and fresh interpretations

Headlining the opening night of CE 2024 is The Pawned Wife, presented by Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award (Organisation) recipient, Nam Hwa Opera. The show presents a modern take of a classic tale, by blending traditional Teochew opera with contemporary theatre.

A unique collaboration between NUS Chinese Drama and NUS Chinese Orchestra, Essentially Macbeth explores what success, ambition and fulfilment mean to today’s generation.

Ding Yi Music Company’s Disappearing Series…: Childhood Melodies of Yesteryears, helmed by Artistic Director and Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, promises an immersive experience through disappearing dialect nursery rhymes and iconic local Chinese, Malay and Indian folk songs presented with a contemporary twist.

SCCC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Low Sze Wee shares, “Our talented artists and arts groups are always at the forefront in expressing Chinese Singaporean culture in exciting and creative ways. They are our true SINGAPO人 Treasures! At Cultural Extravaganza 2024, we put the spotlight on our artistic gems, and celebrate their efforts in promoting our rich and vibrant cultural legacies.”
