Widely regarded as a pinnacle of traditional Chinese painting, the Song Dynasty is celebrated for its refined aesthetics and cultural sophistication.“Dream of Song II – Embrace the Light” continues artist Song Meng’s exploration of traditional ink painting, presenting a new series of works created in Singapore. The exhibition’s theme, “Embrace the Light,” symbolises the first light of dawn and inner awakening. While grounded in traditional brushwork and ink techniques, the works emphasise emotional depth and contemporary visual language. The exhibition features a diverse range of forms, including 9-meter-long landscape installations, more than 100 pieces of Zhong Tang (中堂) and approximately 30 pieces of silk screens, table screens, folding and palace fans, hand scrolls and other artworks done in the various comparatively smaller forms. Through the interplay of ink and light, the exhibition seeks to weave together the aesthetic spirit of a thousand-year-old tradition with the sensibilities of the contemporary era.
