The Wednesday Waltz is back!
Jointly organized by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the 4-parter dialogue series is an open and respectful exchange of views between individuals and groups belonging to different cultures that leads to a deeper understanding of the other’s perception.
In each episode, the half-hour long dialogue aims to introduce a Chinese instrument along with its counterpart in other local cultures. Audiences can discover the similarities and differences between them and bring the audience members on a journey and explore the diversity of Singapore’s music scene.
The first episode was held in January between the pipa and oud. In this second episode, SCO Percussion musician Benjamin Boo (on the instrument Flower Pot Drums) and guest artist Akilesh (on the instrument Mridangam) will share the origins and development of the two instruments, demonstrate the unique techniques of playing them.
This dialogue session Wednesday Waltz: 3-way Music Conversations will be held on 2 June 2021 (Wednesday) 7.30pm, livestreamed on SCCC Facebook and SCO Facebook page. It will be conducted primarily in English. This dialogue is supported by National Arts Council, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Tote Board and Temasek Foundation.
