Singapore, 6 Aug 2022 — Singing in joy and unison, more than 1,200 participants and surrounding audiences gathered at Toa Payoh HDB Hub Mall Square earlier this evening to celebrate our nation’s 57th birthday at the 16th National Day Sing-along. Guest-of-honour Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower, graced the event and delivered a message. This year’s event was also livestreamed for audiences to view from the comfort of their own homes, with over 20,000 views of the event across all our platforms.

Dressed up in red and waving flags, the exuberant crowd sang the night away as they expressed their well-wishes for Singapore, led by a line-up of local singers and a choir performing a medley of much-loved National Day songs in different languages.

Homegrown singers Zuo En, Yutaki Ong, Irwin and Idah rallied the energetic crowd by belting out a repertoire of crowd-pleasing tunes. CAPITAL958 DJs Phua Kia Peow and Goh Wei Ying engaged participants with fun quizzes and games.

The choir from The A Cappella Society’s Children’s Pop Choir & Youth Voices gave a captivating performance, with a medley of beloved National Day must-sing tunes such as “Singapura, Sunny Island, “Home, “Burung Kakak Tua, “Rasa Sayangand “Chan Mali Chan.

The night ended on a high note as the singers performed evergreen favourites like “Where I Belong”, “Home” and “We Will Get There”.

Besides returning for its first offline session in two years, this was the first time the 16th National Day Sing-along was held in hybrid format where audiences could either participate in the physical event or from the comfort of their homes. The event was livestreamed on the SFCCA, SCCC, CAPITAL958 and 8world News’ Facebook pages.

Jointly organised by the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) and Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), the annual sing-along event hopes to unite Singaporeans from all walks of life and evoke a sense of pride. It was supported by the National Integration Council and Central Singapore Community Development Council.
