“My Singapore New Norm” Micro Film Competition; Calling for Entries Capturing the New Norm from a Fresh Perspective

13 Aug – Jointly organised by Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Lianhe Zaobao, the Micro Film Competition is now open for submissions.

Entering its 4th edition, the theme for this edition revolves around “The Singapore New Norm”, and invites individuals to share their observations, interpretations and feelings about the new norm using video. Through their submissions, the Organisers hope to showcase the tenacity, positivity and adaptability of our fellow Singaporeans.

The Competition will be categorized into 3 categories: Open, Student, Overseas,with awards such as Most Popular Micro Film, Most Creative Micro Film, Best Actor and Best Director. Up to S$30,000 worth of cash prizes are up for grabs. Registration begins from now till 20 December 2021, and entries must be submitted by 1 February 2022.

The Competition is honoured to invite the following veterans from the industry to form its judging panel: Actor and Director, Tay Ping Hui; Director of Centre for Chinese Studies at Singapore University of Social Sciences, Dr Foo Tee Tuan; Filmmaker, Eva Tang; Vice-Chairman of Singapore Film Society, Eternality Tan; Senior Screenwriter and Children’s Book Author, Rebecca Leow; and filmmaker as well as Head of Sun Entertainment Culture Los Angeles, Thomas Lim.

Apart from the Competition, the Organisers will also be running bilingual workshops to provide free training for avid film creators and those interested in entering the Competition. The workshops will be conducted by well-known figures in our local film and television industry – Boris Boo, Ang Aik Heng and Saleem Hadi. The workshop will have 2 sessions each in English and Chinese during weekends in September and October 2021.

To encourage interested members of the public to produce microfilms, the organizers will also be arranging 2 sharing sessions with guest speakers Ms Trina Ha, legal counsel specializing in intellectual property rights, celebrated local filmmaker Eva Tang as well as winners of the past Micro Film competitions. They will be sharing their perspectives on film making and the important aspects of intellectual property rights to look out for.

First held in 2014, the inaugural Micro Film Competition was themed “My Singapore Story”. Subsequently editions held bi-annually had “My Singapore Future” and “My Singapore Style” as respective themes, which garnered overwhelming response both locally and abroad.
