Singapore, 7 February 2019 — Over 1,000 guests came together in celebration to usher in the Chinese New Year with Guest-of-Honour, President Halimah Yacob, at Spring Reception 2019, which is jointly organised by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA).
Held at the SCCC, the Spring Reception is an annual event for Chinese community leaders in Singapore to gather and exchange well-wishes and aspirations in the New Year.
Political leaders that were in attendance at the event include Minister Grace Fu, Minister Chan Chun Sing, Minister Ng Chee Meng, Minister Ong Ye Kung, Minister Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State Sam Tan, Mayor Denise Phua, Mayor and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Low Yen Ling and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng.
Other distinguished guests also include members of parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from local Chinese arts and cultural groups, clan associations, leaders and prominent members of the Chinese community, representatives from different ethnic communities and student representatives from various higher learning institutions.
Highlights of the morning include captivating performances by the local institutions and arts groups, as well as a Chinese New Year mass dance segment that rallied the guests to dance and sing along to a hip-hop medley of Chinese New Year songs. President Halimah also visited on-going exhibitions at the centre, namely the immersive “New World, New Life” exhibition at SCCC Ho Bee Concourse, which chronicles the contributions of our forefathers that helped shape the development of our nation, and the “So Much Fun” – An Ah Guo Special Exhibition, which brings visitors into a world of colourful illustration by local artist Ah Guo.
