Singapore, 8 July 2020 – The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) will reopen its inaugural SINGAPO: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture, on 13 July 2020, Monday. Opened to the public in March this year, the exhibition casts a spotlight on how Chinese heritage, cultural interactions, and public policies have shaped Chinese culture in Singapore, and led it to evolve in ways which are different from other Chinese communities in the world. Featuring important loans from iconic personalities such as Stefanie Sun and Anthony Chen, multimedia and immersive exhibits with contributions from the community, SINGAPO highlights the many facets of our distinctive Chinese Singaporean identity – from food to music; popular culture and language; and festivals.

Mr Low Sze Wee, Chief Executive Officer, SCCC, said, “We are delighted to be able to reopen our SINGAPO: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture exhibition. The safety of our staff and visitors is our topmost priority and we will put in place all necessary measures so that everybody can enjoy our exhibition in a safe environment.”

The exhibition will be opened from 2pm to 8pm on Mondays, and 10am to 8pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free. All exhibition visitors will be provided with disposable gloves, and have to adhere to safe management measures.

To ensure that our Chinese Singaporean culture remains accessible to all, the Centre has introduced a series of online offerings.

  • – Members of the public can head to the SCCC YouTube Channel to discover lesser-known stories behind our local customs and traditions, as well as relive the Centre’s past programmes.
  • – Since 3 July 2020, the Centre has also resumed its popular TGIF Music Station in a refreshed digital format with fortnightly live-streamed performances by Singapore’s favourite artistes on the SCCC Facebook Page.
  • – From 13 July 2020, members of the public can explore a modern reimagination of traditional Chinese myths and legends as RE•MIX 2020’s popular Urban Art Exhibition goes online. Discover these refreshed takes on Chinese mythology on the SCCC website.

To further support the work of arts and cultural workers, the Centre’s premises are now available for digital productions and recording of courses and performances, as well as rehearsals without audiences.
